[실전표현] 'would like to' 는 왜 '~하고 싶다' 일까?

would : (의지있어) ~할거다. ~일거다.

         의지있는 만큼 높은 느낌(70%)으로 ~할거다. ~일거다.

        

like to : ~하기를 좋아한다.

would like ~ing 로 쓰는것도 가능할까요?(~ing -vs- to do 편 확인.)

'would like to' 를 직역하면 '~하기를 좋아할거다'가 됩니다.

would를 뺀 like to 와 비교해 볼까요.

 I like to do shopping. 

나는 쇼핑하기를 좋아한다.

엄밀히 말해서는 미래에 쇼핑할 것을 좋아한다는 뜻이에요.

'쇼핑하기' 자체를 좋아한다고 하려면 I like doing shopping. (or) I like shopping.

 I would like to do shopping. 

나는 쇼핑하기를 좋아할거다.

'would' 는 70%정도 할거다라는 느낌을 주는 역할을 합니다.

그래서 약간 공손한 느낌이 들어요.

"나는 그렇다" 라고 표현하기 보다 "나는 (70%느낌) 그럴꺼야"로 표현하면서 좀더 부드러운 말하기를 하는거죠.

우리나라 말로 "~할거같아, ~일거같아" 도 어울리는 해석이 되겠네요.

'would like to' 는 좋아할거라고 의사를 부드럽게 표현하니까 "~하고 싶다"로 이해하기로 약속한거죠.

다른 조동사를 사용한 문장과 'would' 가 주는 느낌을 비교해보세요.

 I will like to do shopping. 나는 쇼핑하기를 좋아할거야. (그냥 그럴거다.)

 I should like to do shopping. 나는 쇼핑하기를 (의무있어) 좋아해야해.

 I could like to do shopping. 나는 쇼핑하기를 (좋아할 능력있어) 좋아할 수도 있어.

 I'd like to check if ~ 

 의미 : 나는 ~인지 아닌지 확인하고 싶습니다.

다른 조동사를 넣어보면 이상한 말이 될거에요.

 I should like to check if ~ 

 의미 : 나는 ~인지 아닌지 확인하기를 좋아해야합니다.

 I might like to check if ~ 

 의미 : 나는 ~인지 아닌지 확인하기를 어쩌면 좋아할지도 모릅니다.

However, I would like to change my recipe if it is possible.

 I would like to change my recipe. 

 의미 : 나는 내 레시피를 변경하고 싶습니다.

What we would like to have is one or a few measurable biological changes that mirror all other biological age changes without reference to the passage of time, so that we could say, for example, that someone who is chronologically eighty years old is biologically sixty years old.

 What we would like to have is a few biological changes. 

 의미 : 우리가 가지고 싶은 것들은 약간의 생물학적 변화들 입니다.

For example, we would like to know the rate of natural soil formation from solid rock to determine whether topsoil erosion from agriculture is too great.

<2018 6월모의 32.>

 We would like to know the rate of it. 

 의미 : 우리는 그것의 비율을 알고 싶습니다.

'would' 가 들어가는 다른 기출문장을 볼까요.

Without the influence of minorities, we would have no innovation, no social change.

<2019 수능(홀수형) 32.>

 We would have no innovation. 

 의미 : 우리는 혁신을 가지지 못 할거다.

 We should have no innovation. 

 직역 : 우리는 혁신아님을 (의무있어) 가질거다.

 의미 : 우리는 혁신을 (의무적일 정도로) 가지지 못 할거다.

'should' 가 꼭 해야한다는 뜻으로 쓰이는게 아니에요.

의무있어 해야할만큼 높은 확률(90%)로 할거다 라는 뜻이죠.

우리나라말로 바꾸다보니 대부분 '해야한다'가 어울리는 거에요.

'would' 보다 확률적으로 더 강한 느낌입니다.

As a system for transmitting specific factual information without any distortion or ambiguity, the sign system of honey-bees would probably win easily over human language every time.

<2017 수능(홀수형) 22.>

 The sign system of honey-bees would win easily. 

 의미 : 꿀벌들의 신호 시스템이 쉽게 이길거다.

 The sign system of honey-bees might win easily. 

 의미 : 꿀벌들의 신호 시스템이 어쩌면 쉽게 이길지도 모른다.

말이 되기는 하지만 'might' 와 'easily' 의 조합은 뭔가 이상하네요.
